Willys Trucks

The Willys Jeep pick-up is a classic four-wheel drive, made in America for about 20 years, and used by both civilians and the the military. The truck is now a collectors item, sought by serious vehicle restorers and military enthusiasts.
Models
The first Willys Jeep truck was manufactured by Willys-Overland Motors in 1947. Its design was based on the wildly popular station wagon and Jeepster which were previously manufactured. A total of four different models were designed and marketed. Between 1947 and 1950 the GO-Devil I4 was available. Between 1950 and 1965 the Hurricane I4 was manufactured. The Super Hurricane and Tornado were more powerful than the I4s and overlapped their production between 1954 and 1962, and between 1962 and 1965, respectively.
Power trains
The I4’s were equipped with a 134 cubic inch, 2.2 liter, 4- cylinder engine. The Super Hurricane I6 was equipped with a 226 cubic inch, 3.7 liter, 6-cylinder engine. The Tornado I6 was a 230 cubic inch 3.8 liter, 6-cylinder engine. The original trucks were available in both four wheel and two wheel drive 1-ton models. In 1950 a ½ ton, two wheel drive with a lighter power train was added. The two wheel drives were unsuccessful, however and were discontinued after 1951.
Willys Jeep trucks were beloved for their lightweight design and rugged durability. They were used during WWII as supply transport vehicles and were also popular for farm labor because of their ability to go off-road, without loosing power and traction. Today, they are an important collectors item and significant classic vehicle.
