I
found this truck in Tenessee where the previous owner (PO from now on)
had rescued it from a fire that for all intents had destroyed the truck. |

The
PO was a teenager who decided this truck was going to make a come back.
He moved it off the original chassis and sort of merged it with Wagoneers
from the 60's. The drive train came from a late 60's Wagoneer with a "Dauntless"
V8 (which was really a Buick 350) and it was mated to an AMC prepared
TH400 transmission. Eventually the engine was replaced with a 2 bbl 350
from a 71 Skylark. |

The chassis and steering gear came from an early 60's Wagoneer and he stretched the chassis from 109" to about 112". All in all he did a fairly nice job considering what he had to start with. When I got the truck I could see there were issues with the chassis, first it was 6" shorter than original, and second it had rusted through at the front suspension mounts. I made the decision to restore it to a Willys chassis, but to build it as a Resto-Mod to take advantage of the work the PO had already done. I've documented the process as much as I can so that others may be able to benefit from what I learn on the way. We've had a few setbacks and the project is taking some time because of them, but we are hoping to finish the truck this year (2009) Just for fun, here are links to pictures I took "On the trip home" and some photos of old Willys cars my parents owned before I was born. |
